LETTING GO OF CLOSET CLUTTER

April 12, 2018

Our closets are one of the first places to get cluttered. Especially in cold climates, the amount of extra clothing needed can really overwhelm the space. Letting go of items you don’t use will help you stay organized and make sure you’re only keeping things you truly enjoy.

Many of us collect clothes that we wear once or never even cut the tags off. These are the first things you should evaluate when cleaning out your closet. Why haven’t you worn these items? Do they even fit you? Do they flatter you and make you feel good about yourself? If not, donate them instead of letting them take up valuable space in your closet.

If something has sentimental value or is from a special occasion, it can be even harder to let go of. A wedding dress or christening gown represents an important memory and is generally worn once. So don’t force yourself to get rid of something like that if it brings you joy to see it. But do take steps to clean and preserve it, especially if you’re saving it for other family members. For other items, think about why you’re holding on to it. If it’s just the memory of something, think about whether pictures of the item will give you the same feeling. With these tips, you can make room in your closet for important items while also keeping space for your day-to-day wardrobe.
