USING A SLOW COOKER TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY
Many people have a slow cooker in their kitchen, but few really take advantage of this great appliance that makes cooking simple and economical. Fall is a great time to experiment with new recipes and make your slow cooker work for you.
For those who don’t like to cook, the temptation to order take-out food is strong, especially on cold nights when all you want to do is huddle under a blanket or on busy weekends where you’re running around town all day. With just a small amount of planning, you can have your slow cooker prepare your meal while you take care of other things. This saves you the cost of expensive restaurant meals, as well as providing a more nutritious meal since you know every ingredient that was added to the meal.
Most recipes allow you to place all ingredients in the slow cooker, program it, and go! Using it decreases preparation time and with only one pot to clean, your time cleaning up is decreased also. Cooking slowly over lower temperatures allows for meat to be tenderized in a way no other cooking method allows for, therefore you can buy inexpensive cuts of meat that will end up tasting just as good later. Because you’re using less electricity with a slow cooker, you’ll not only save money on groceries but also on your utility bills.
